Biography
Early Life & Cultural Heritage
Born to a Peruvian-Venezuelan mother and English father, my multicultural upbringing has profoundly shaped my artistic vision. Growing up between different cultures fostered a deep appreciation for diverse artistic traditions and perspectives. This rich cultural background continues to influence my work, particularly in how I explore themes of identity and cultural synthesis.
Artistic Journey
My formal training began at the University of London, where I studied Art History and Visual Culture. This academic foundation, combined with my passion for traditional Japanese art, led me to explore woodblock printing in Kyoto. The precision and meditation of Japanese techniques have become integral to my artistic practice, informing how I approach both traditional and contemporary works.
Current Practice
Based between Madrid and Kyoto, my work bridges Eastern and Western artistic traditions. I specialize in oil painting and woodblock printing, often combining these techniques to create unique perspectives on urban landscapes and cultural narratives. My recent work explores the intersection of traditional craftsmanship with contemporary themes, particularly focusing on urban environments and their relationship with cultural heritage.
Artistic Philosophy
I believe in art's power to transcend cultural boundaries and create meaningful dialogue. Through my work, I seek to challenge traditional categorizations of Eastern and Western art, creating pieces that reflect our increasingly interconnected world. My commitment to both preserving traditional techniques and exploring contemporary themes drives my practice forward, as I continue to develop new ways of expressing cultural synthesis through art.
My work has been recognized through various awards and residencies, including the Young Artist Award from the Madrid Contemporary Arts Foundation and an artist residency at the prestigious Kyoto Traditional Arts Center. These opportunities have allowed me to deepen my practice and contribute to the international dialogue between traditional and contemporary art forms.
