Artist Statement (300 words)

I am a contemporary artist born and raised in London with a desire to be understood. A desire to tell many stories, share many lessons, messages, and moments of connection through my work as possible. My work spans across a wide variety of media from paint to performance, video, installation and more. From abstract narrative scrolls on climate change to psychogeographical love stories told through silent film and sculptures, my work knows no bounds. A recent interest in spirals has collided with a long-term passion for colour to form a series of inspired spiral paintings, combining Buddhist principles of Zen with an exacting method of colour discovery inspired by Cruz Diez and their Venezuelan heritage. There is a deep sense of intertextuality within their work, a strong belief that everything on and beyond earth is deeply connected and must all be considered with equal curiosity.   I take inspiration from nearly every aspect of life, personal experiences, childhood memories, trauma, and loving relationships to a wider experience of current events. My work aims to open dialogues challenging our existing feelings of hopelessness and powerlessness against larger political and corporate forces. I explored feelings around wealth disparity by comparing the titan submersible implosion and Messenia boat disaster all in a painting simple enough to disguise as a table runner.   My queer and neurodivergent identities define me as someone who strays from the norm, experiencing the world in an unorthodox manner, from how time passes (non-linearly) to how I see myself and those around me- all of this works to inform my practice, creating art which reveals experiences of people who for generations weren’t given the time or space to be heard. I see it as a privilege to be living and working today, to have so much knowledge available to us, yet so much more to learn.
