An illustrated poem detailing the age old question of which is better, skateboards or lasagne? Printed on Risograph as part of a publication accompanying the 2022 exhibition, 'Painting, Community and History' in the Brixton Tate Library.
Skateboards are better than lasagne,
A skateboard has 4 wheels
where lasagna's have none,
I can go really fast on a board
but lasagnas just make me tired,
Skateboards are more fun than lasagna,
They last longer and
are prettier to look at,
The click-clack of a board
speeding down the street,
It sounds a lot nicer
than the wet, mulchy noises
from the chewing up saucy layers of pasta
Skateboards come in all colours,
Some have bright green frogs on the back,
Others have drawings of pretty girls,
Some images are entirely worn away,
From skating, or leaving it out in the rain,
Lasagna is always browm,
Warm reds, creams, beiges and whites,
All different types of browns,
Maybe green if it has vegetables
or if its gone mouldy,
But the colour spectrum doesn't go far with lasagna,
With a skateboard everything can go far,
The colours, the size of the deck, the wheels,
I can go far on a skateboard,
But probably not as far if i ate a lasagna first...
